What is old, and what is new in any work of art?
All art is 'copied' and inspired from and by previous works. In a way, all art is not original; our perception and lack of awareness or connection to the previous work is where the 'originality' stems from. How is art used in everyday life? Art can be both functional and otherwise. The functional art, well, functions. The art that is not inherently useful is usually a vector of communication, and the rest just exists as inspiration for future works. How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication? Art is interesting and can effectively communicate to people in a way that keeps them interested and involved while being independent of the viewer's level of education. |
What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art?
The problem-solving skills required to complete a task vary. However, an ability to secure and work within a budget is extremely useful; money can't buy love, but it can buy shutter-release cables.
How can an artist create works of art through combining, expanding, and sequencing?
Artists are inspired by other works and are influenced by them. This is an unintentional method of the expanding and inadvertent copying we see today and have seen since the creation of art became widespread.
How did you go about making this project take off? What were helpful pieces? (content lecture(s) or videos, project objectives and rubric, work time, check ins, critique, exhibition audience, etc...)
I am obsessive about things; when I have an idea I would like to come into existence, I do my best to make it happen. This was the case with this project. I wanted to do time-lapse, so I figured out how. Yes, adaptability and flexibility are good, but if you can make it happen without them and by doing so improve the quality of your work, then it is better than the alternative. There are times to realize that your idea or belief is wrong and the true skill is the ability to recognize when this time is so one can act accordingly.
